A Note On This Page

The work featured here was conducted as part of a now-concluded partnership between the CUNY Center for Immigrant, Refugee and Global Health (CIRGH), the CUNY Center for Innovation in Mental Health (CIMH) and the USAID Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) Project. This page synthesizes that body of work and signposts to further resources and organizations continuing this important work. CIRGH remains committed to global mental health in the years to come.

Overview

From 2016 to 2025, CUNY CIRGH and CUNY CIMH supported the USAID Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) Project in strengthening the evidence base and promoting the use of data and evidence on community-level mental health and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions.

Funded five intervention studies to understand the effectiveness and implementation of community-level MHPSS interventions across six countries and four regions.

Bangladesh | Colombia | Ecuador & Panama | Uganda | Jordan

For more information on these studies, visit the MHPSS Knowledge Hub.

Established the MHPSS Learning Collaborative — originally created in collaboration with the Implementation Science Collaborative to support connections and coordination across the five intervention study teams and their technical and policy partners at the local, national, regional, and global levels. The MHPSS LC has since grown into a global community of practice, now comprising more than 250 participants from over 60 organizations across 20 countries, supporting interventions, webinars, publications, and dissemination events.

Supported three rapid studies on integrating community-based mental health services

Nepal | Rwanda | Moldova

Facilitated a landscaping of community-based mental health programs and policies in select countries across Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, relying on a locally led, partnered approach drawing on existing literature and stakeholder network development. MHPSS Knowledge Hub

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Knowledge Hub  is the MHPSS Learning Collaborative’s global platform for generating, synthesizing, and disseminating research, innovations, and advocacy efforts in the field. Managed by the Center for Innovation in Mental Health (CIMH) at the CUNY SPH, the Hub brings together resources, expertise, and activities from across the global network.
